Dear Reader,
Welcome to the January edition of Net Zero Trend’s Monthly Newsletter on China.
In the past month, five Chinese ministries unveiled China’s first batch of national zero-carbon industrial park pilots, naming 52 industrial parks nationwide; released national guidelines for green industrial microgrids, elevating them from pilots to core industrial infrastructure; and issued guidelines for the construction of zero-carbon factories.
In January, China’s CCTV reported on Envision and its physical AI-powered ESS platform, which supports the 680 MW/1.36 GWh Carrington project in the UK. Meanwhile, Wuxi LEAD’s fuel cell manufacturing equipment passed stringent industrial acceptance testing in Germany, while UtmoLight and UNSW launched the International Joint Laboratory for Perovskite PVs in Wuxi, with growing application potential for space-based data centers.
At end-2025, FAW rolled out China’s first vehicle equipped with a fully all-solid-state battery (SSB) pack in Jilin and launched China’s first public-road liquid-hydrogen heavy truck pilot in Sichuan. In Xinjiang, China Three Gorges commissioned the world’s largest vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) project (200 MW/1 GWh), while Mingyang brought the world’s first 30 MW hydrogen gas turbine into stable operation in Inner Mongolia.
In the first week of 2026, China’s northwestern provinces unveiled coordinated plans for industrial and renewable development. Meanwhile, China’s SOEs increased their focus on hydrogen and derivatives, including SASAC’s plan to reorganize Sinopec and China National Aviation Fuel (CNFAF) to advance sustainable aviation fuel. In the private sector, Carbonology opened its R&D center and pilot process line for DAC-to-SAF in Shanghai.
On January 16, Canada and China established a new strategic partnership covering clean energy, smart grids, and electric vehicles. One day earlier, during his visit to Beijing, the Canadian Prime Minister met with the Chairman of Envision, which opened its battery gigafactory in Douai, France in June 2025.
China is at the center of the global energy transition. Its policies and projects are shaping markets and influencing the future. Our mission is to connect policymakers, investors, and innovators with the trends driving China’s climate and energy landscape.
Thank you, and let’s track China’s path to net zero together.
Until next month,
